Reno, get help from your refrigerator in achieving your health goals!

You get home from the grocery store, all excited with your new found items from the produce aisle. You start putting things in the refrigerator and OH NO! this thing wasn't made for my diet! The shelves are misplaced, the drawers are too tiny. Oh, refrigerator, methinks you were designed for the Average American diet, with your soda can dispenser and baby vegetable drawer.

You probably have two drawers at the bottom of your refrigerator. One is low humidity, for fruit, and the other is higher humidity, for vegetables. These drawers were designed to promote or limit ripening.

If you're Discovering your Optimal Wellness, you'll find it impossible to cram all your scrumptious whole nutrients into these drawers.

Here are some strategies for making your refrigerator a supportive tool in your wellness:

  • Before you go shopping, clear any aging or expired items from the fridge; tidy up and make room!
  • Shop with a list, based on the recipes we recommend
  • Take 30 minutes when you return from the grocery store to chop and prep vegetables for that week's meals. 
  • Put produce that needs to ripen in the fruit drawer.
  • Put produce that needs to last in the vegetable drawer.
  • Put prepared fruits and vegetables near the back of the fridge or in the meat drawer (where it's coldest!).
  • Place infused drinking water in easy-to-grab containers in the door of the fridge (or where you'll see it!).
  • Place a picture of what you want your body to look like (with a picture of your head attached) on fridge to remind yourself of your goals!
  • Remember the Freezer! If your produce is starting to fade, wash it, chop it and store it in the freezer to be featured in your next soup, stir-fry or protein shake!
